E-wrap Cast-on Method

The E-wrap cast-on method is the easiest cast-on method on the round loom. You use the e-wrap stitch. It creates a loopy edge which can easily be hidden in a brim/cuff. It should not be used if the edge will be seen.

Tools needed

  • Round loom or rake
  • Knitting tool
Before casting-on, review the good loom knitting habits. It's important not to wrap tightly.

  1. Tie a slip knot leaving a 3-inch tail and place on peg 1.

  2. With your working yarn held in your right hand, wrap each peg in a counterclockwise direction with the yarn crossing on the inside of the loom. Wrap each peg in this manner moving across the loom from right to left.
If you look down on the loom, the wraps will look like upside down cursive lowercase Es.
  3. For the second row, you can either continue wrapping for the e-wrap stitch or knit off each peg individually.
  1. Tie a slip knot leaving a 3-inch tail and place on the last peg.

  2. With your working yarn held in your right hand, wrap the next-to-last peg in a clockwise direction with the yarn crossing on the inside of the loom. Wrap each peg in this manner moving across the loom from left to right.
If you look down on the loom, the wraps will look like upside down cursive lowercase Es.
  3. For the last peg (peg 1), you will wrap an "e" and then continue around it in the same direction so there are two wrap but only one "e".

  4. When you move to peg 2, wrap it in a counterclockwise direction with the yarn crossing on the inside of the loom. Wrap each peg in this manner moving across the loom from right to left.

  5. Each peg will have 2 wraps on it. Knit off.
